It’s that time of year



Come out and celebrate Aztec Sparkles, bring your family and friends. There will be many activities for the whole family to enjoy all weekend. Kick-off is Thursday, December 10th


with "Evening of Lights" at Aztec Ruins National Monument & Sutherland Farms Market, Bakery and Purple Cow CafĂ© with (Door prizes – all weekend). Friday December 11th 
Sutherland Markets will have the following: Hayrides, Barrel Train Rides, Bonfire and Santa. Saturday’s festivities begin at 8 am with the Arts & Crafts Fair, Children’s Carnival by Jump N Fun. The 5K Santa Dash begins at 10 AM. Downtown Businesses will be open for shopping to include Guest Artisans, Santa & Carolers. Live Music will be happening at Rubia’s Patio. Hay Wagon Rides can be located between Rubia’s and Sheer Faith Salon. Aztec Community Center will have children’s Face Painting. The Christmas Light Parade will begin at 5 pm followed by FREE kids Movie & Hot Cocoa provided by the Aztec Community Center located at (101 S. Park Ave) Don’t miss out on a fun filled weekend of laughter & joy let’s make this Christmas a memorable one. Join us as we celebrate our Annual Aztec Sparkles.

AZTEC MUSEUM ASSOCIATION FOUNDERS DAY
SEPTEMBER 19, 2015

 “History of Transportation in Aztec and the Four Corners”

Bring your family and friends out as we celebrate the heritage of the Aztec Community! Special reception for the entire community will be hosted by the Magee Family.

A day filled with family fun, walking tours, and much more!! Mike Gustafson of Blanco will have his Belgian horses and open wagon available for rides for both young and old. Aztec local Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts will participate with special activities.

Founders Day Annual Parade will feature the Museum’s latest addition, a fully restored 1927 Model T Ford Truck. The Dusenbery family collection of thirteen classic Studebakers will be on display as well as a talk of their history in transportation in Aztec. 

Presentations by the following; John Coker, a train engineer will present on the impact of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in Aztec and the Four Corners. He will also be featuring his artwork on the subject of “Railroads.” Michael Maddox, local author and Aztec Museum Association board member will present on the development of trails and roads in the Aztec area and how their growth will impact the Aztec Four Corners area.

Pecos West Cyclorama Exhibit will be available for viewing. This display is eighteen feet in diameter and weighs 3,500 lbs.  Its display depicts people, animals, plants, buildings, vehicles and many other symbols of the desert southwest.  Created by the skilled hands of Valenty Zaharek, all are hand carved from pine, redwood, burl oak and aspen.

Major touring series to include Chad Tenski’s Border State Racing Series out of New Mexico. Joe Bellm’s Blood Sweat in Tears Tour out of Colorado, along with an invite to Ken Hansen’s always impressive Wild West Modified Tour.

Come out and support local driver and 2 time defending IMCA Modified National Champion Zane DeVilbiss from Farmington NM, out of state drivers include: 3 time Wild West Modified Tour Champion Ricky Alvarado from Delta Co,  2 time BST Modified Champion John Hansen From Brush CO and 3 Time
BST series Champion Jeremy Frenier from Ft Morgan CO.

The Young gun Ricky Thornton JR from Chandler AZ. Ricky was the 2014 Canyon/Cocopah winter series Champion, He was also a Prelim winner at the IMCA Super Nationals in 2013. Entry list will become available in the coming months.

Navajo Dam and Reservoir and State Park



Located on the San Juan River, the earth and rock-filled dam is nearly .75-miles long and 400 feet high and is the central amenity of Navajo Lake State Park. A water sports Mecca, Navajo Lake recreation includes boating, sailing, and paddle boarding. A popular outdoor activity is fishing at the Quality Waters of the lower San Juan River, located immediately downstream from the dam's spillway. Known for its USA Top 10 Fly Fishing destination you will encounter brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout, large-mouth bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish and kokanee salmon.
